At Lake Church, our purpose statement is Glorify God, Pursue People.    This drives everything that we do.  We believe that the church’s purpose and values come from Acts 2:41-46 (ESV), “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.  And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.  And all who believed were together and had all things in common.  And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.  And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,  praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”

There are 6 values and value statements that we believe are important to our purpose.  The Bible clearly states that our purpose is to Glorify God and Pursue People (Psalm 96 and many other places).  The New Testament also expresses some fundamental values that the disciple of Christ should embody as he/she Glorifies God and Pursues People.  Here are the values that we embrace…

Sacrifice:  God gave His Son, so we give all to Him.

Exalt:  God is supreme, so we exalt Him.

Learn:  God is the Great Teacher, so we learn from Him.

Pray:  God speaks, so we talk with Him.

Pursue:  God pursues people, so we pursue people.

Connect:  God created relationships, so we build friendships.

Scripture also teaches us that discipleship is the foundation in which these values are learned and expressed to Glorify God and Pursue People. Lake Church uses the Discipleship Loop as a tool to lead us to the embodiment of a disciple. The Loop is not intended to be a legalistic picture of a disciple’s life, but to illustrate the circular journey that we are on as a disciple of Jesus.

A person who makes Lake Church his or her church home is someone who:

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 10:9 (NIV)

“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins…” Acts 2:38 (NIV)

This class is for guests and new members to learn about our purpose, values, who we are, and what it means to be a member. Our pastor is the main teacher and each class is followed by a light lunch to meet additional members of the staff. For additional information, please visit the Next Steps Wall on Sunday mornings.
